Reflecting on our Past

ICN Victoria has been a critical driver of Victoria’s economic growth for 40 years.

ICN Victoria began in 1984 as Industry Supply Office (ISO). Our first Chairman, Bob Herbert, then Victorian Director of the Metal Trades Industry Association (MTIA), ministerial staffer Colin Edwards and trade unionist John Halfpenny who first established ISO, with backing of minister for employment, Jim Symmonds.

As Victoria’s economy has evolved from manufacturing, agriculture, textiles and automotive focus in the 1980s to what we see today – including med-tech and biotech, renewable energy generation – ICN Victoria has evolved with it, and in doing so, has helped hundreds of thousands of local businesses and Victorian workers.

Celebrating Our Present

40 years on from the beginning, ICN Victoria is as active as ever

Today, we continue to play a central role in the delivery of key projects for the Victorian community.

Metro project spotlight: State Library of Victoria

One of these projects was the Vision2020 redevelopment of the State Library of Victoria, our 40th anniversary event venue.  The redevelopment saw an $88 million refurbishment of the library’s heritage spaces and creation of new innovative spaces for Victorians to enjoy.

ICN Victoria connected local suppliers to the Vision2020 redevelopment project, preserving the cultural heritage of this iconic 170 year-old institution.  We’re proud to be helping local win by administering the Victorian Government’s Local Jobs First policy and serving as the trusted government procurement partner.

Shaping Our Future

ICN Victoria is at the heart of Victoria’s economic future.

By 2050, our state will be home to more than ten million people, with eight million forecast to live in Melbourne and more than two million in regional Victoria. As Victoria’s economy continues to evolve and new industries become more prominent – such as med-tech, biotech, advanced manufacturing, and renewable energy –  ICN Victoria has a clear role to play.  We’ll be focused on

Enhancing and strengthen our existing offering and capability.  Expanding our future operations and capacity through better integration with industry policy design and program delivery. ICN Victoria will continue to be an important hand on the shoulder of Victorian businesses guiding them through the future. This support is vital for economic growth, job creation and the productivity of the state.
